From both studies we get to understand that there was a particular reason behind their emigration, self-motivation and determination have been seen to be driving the two, cultural differences was the center for their businesses ideas. Family and ethical networking are also shown to be essential for the success of the enterprise. There were many areas of considering that were studied to help understand the similarities and differences in the two case studies. The following are some of the factors considered: Intellectual property, innovation, and knowledge are important as far as completion is concerned. Intellectual property will help most of the entrepreneurs to be ahead of their competitors. They are able to protect their businesses and give room for more developments. Competitors cannot import or export the products without your knowledge. It also helps one secure loans and credit cards from, financial institutions (Hovenkamp Carrier 2016). Combined with innovation and knowledge, entrepreneurs are able to be innovative enough to capture the available market. They have to think beyond the nose to ensure customer satisfaction. For this to happen, then full knowledge and understanding of the market, financial abilities, competitor knowledge is necessary (Block et al. 2013). The use of these factors is seen in the case study of Claus Speckles where he is always alert on his competitors never giving them room to defeat him. He goes further to spend time getting knowledge on one of his bu siness ideas making the idea and the actual results blossom. Ethnicity, culture, network and seed capital have been shown in the two scenarios. Ethnicity network is important in that it gives one advantage over an opportunity that one who has no ethnic relations around (Hogberg et al. 2016). The culture of an individual will also determine the kind of business ideas generated. Individuals from less disadvantageous countries may think shallowly as compared to their fellows from a well-established country. Full understanding of culture can help one identify business idea. Proper networking is important, both family networks, and the communication networks as it helps in giving stability to an idea making it stand (Ryan et al. 2015). This is evident when Claus gets to States and through ethnic relations secures a job and finally, through family networks buys his first business of retail and wholesale products. For any successful business, it has to identify its market and the market niche. Identifying the market for the product is not enough, but one has to draw the market niche. This involves the identification of a specific need that is required by consumers and satisfying their need (Ward 2016). It identifies a product or a service that is not being addressed by other providers. From the two cases, we see every person trying to get a unique product from the rest of competitors. Claus kept on changing from one product to another just to remain unique in the service provision. The Max family is also tried to narrow down it's business ideas so that it targets a particular market. Businesses established in different countries have the set legal and regulatory categories that help it to run. These legal and regulatory categories include environmental laws, tax laws, contract laws, license permitting laws and consumer protection laws. These laws have to be adhered to strictly by any business in order to establish. Failure to adhere to this may be a starting point for the closure of the business (Bradley Klein 2016). From the study cases, we see Claus being able to pay tax under the requirement tax law of the United States; he established good consumer protection law, where he could regulate prices to favor his consumers. This factor has been seen to help him be above the competitors. Entrepreneurship is an entity in which there must exist a competition. Allowing a competitor to gain a competitive advantage over ones business is a step towards failure (McDonald Eisenhardt 2014). One should take every competition positively and use position strategy to gain competitive advantage. Claus, from the case study, left his competitors aping his projects and products, while continually innovating, which made him stay ahead of them constantly. With increased competition in the field of entrepreneurship, an entrepreneur has to be sensitive to changes in the business environment in order to ensure maximum productivity (Lechner Gudmundsson 2014). There should always be a need for control. Entrepreneurship as a field has many of its advantages. There is always one other side of entrepreneurship that is not often mentioned; this is the dark side of entrepreneurship. The dark side entails those attributes that an entrepreneur has to possess for success. Among them we have a need for control, sense of distrust to the surrounding people, always avoid negative mindsets, be always patient and persistent and should have personal inspirations. From Claus articles, we are able to see how Claus Spreckels has some of these attributes of the dark side of entrepreneurship. He was self-motivated in everything he did, had control had time for family and time for work, he never trusted people around, he only trusted in himself. The Maxs fami ly are seen to be self-motivated and inspired, and expectant of success despite challenges. They were able to leave their country and family home, just come and exploit the unknown land. They were able to leave their comfort zone for the sake of their business ideas. In any foreign country, an entrepreneur has to adhere to government regulations and requirements (Gibson 2016). This will help in ensuring the atmosphere for the business is conducive. Political lobbying is inevitable in host country if one has to be successful (Pinkse Groot 2015). For example, Claus Speckle was able to establish his company in Hawaii and American West due to his good rapport towards the political leaders. It is important that one establish strong ethical values like loyalty, hard work, self-motivation which will drive them to their success (Ghoul 2016). Ethical values possessed by both Claus and Max's family were the reason for their success. Conclusion Entrepreneurship among migrants has been present from the 19th century up to the present times. Migrant entrepreneurs found ways to be innovative, self-motivated, determined and take risks in the new countries in order to be successful. The 19th and 21st-century migrant entrepreneurs have certain similarities and differences in their situations, purpose, and method of success. Both phased the challenge of acceptance, difficulty in doing business in the host country and difficulty in accessing capital from financial institutions and individuals in the host country. The 19th-century migrants entrepreneurs had to deal with the challenges of poor transport, lack of capital and inadequate communication facilities to make business easier. On the flipside, the 21st century has unique challenges in terms of the high degree of innovation and analytics skills required to win over the market. The 21st century entrepreneur is more advantageous as technology and the internet provide more opportun ity for innovation, makes reaching customers easier, and allows for easy access to data that provide information regarding customer behaviours and wants. Many countries have placed a cap on migrant numbers, but recent studies have shown that host countries actually benefit from them as much. Although this group faces several challenges, determination is always the driving force, which makes them more successful than many citizens of the host countries. In a very real sense he has been an exceptional visionary. Although he is widely renowned as the architect of the West Coast offense, his innovative approach to the game has extended far beyond his imaginative ideas on offense. During the time he spent working with the San Francisco 49ers, he transformed San Francisco's game into an art form. To Walsh, football was more than a physical contest, and success is more than a victory on the playing field. Success is the progression of worthy ideas and goals. Such a progression involves at least two key cerebral factors, attention to detail and an absolute commitment to perfection. To Walsh's way of reasoning, no detail or situation is too unimportant to be overlooked. Every possible circumstance that might affect the performance of the team and the productivity of the organization should be addressed. In turn, a contingency plan to handle each situation should be developed. In his more than four decades of involvement with the game as a player, a coach, and a top-level administrator, no individual has had a more worthy or meaningful impact on the players he coached or the coaches with whom he worked. When I think of Bella, I think of dust, for the arid country in which she lived was no friend of the meticulous housewife. And as I begin to feel the swirling dust exfoliate my skin, my right hand automatically, subconsciously drifts to my left wrist, feeling for the plastic bracelet I lost long ago and finding only the memory of its origin. Bella came to me in the summer, when the sun was high and hot, and my hair had begun to turn red with its heat. More factually, I went to Bella, in a group of thirty, on the quintessential summer mission trip to Mexico. Filled with our romantic plans and burdened with craft supplies, we entered a small, worn, and obviously loved gym. Our first project was to advertise, and as we set out into the surrounding neighborhood, I began to miss the smooth pavement of America. The next day, having used my allotted eight minutes of hot water and five minutes of mirror time, my feelings of discomfort were far from alleviated. I was to be a group leader, meaning that I alone would be working with a small group of children whose names were as foreign to me as the wind to a worm. By this time, I was so far from my comfort zone I was beginning to lose sight of it, and a few more steps would put me in danger of getting lost on my way back. This is where Bella floated into my life. As we sat on the gym floor, me trying desperately not to show my fear, Bella and her sister coloring contentedly, my eyes fell on a subject guaranteed to generate conversation: jewelry. Bella had adorned her small wrist with a bracelet woven of thin strips of plastic. It had an unmistakable air of mission trip about it and as I pointed to it and gestured my admiration, I envisioned her sitting on this same hard floor with another girl, one hopefully more adept than I. The thought that Bella had done this before, that she knew the routine made me relax, and after a bit I even found my waxen smile melting into one of genuine pleasure . Over the next four days, Bella became a constant in my life. Every morning, bracelet donned, sister in hand, she marched through the crowd of surging children and found me. She repeated this routine with such a steadfast air, that I felt sure she would have found me had I suddenly relocated home. Her regularity was comforting, and if nothing else, I appreciated that it was me she found, eradicating the possibility of my ending up with a new name and face to learn every day. Bella marched right through the week and ushered in Friday with all the assurance a nine year old commands. We wrapped up the week in true mission trip style: with candy and lots of it. Our fructose-packed handfuls engendered so chaotic a frenzy that when Bella’s turn came I could only manage a quick bye and a smile in the direction of her and her sister before I was again absorbed by the hyped crowd. With a fond smile I watched her small back grow even smaller, and as I turned to focus on the other chi ldren, I had an extra bit of patience to share. Just as I sorted out who had already been given candy from those who had not, I felt a small tap, lighter than the landing of a bumblebee. Resisting the urge to pretend I had not felt anything, I turned. There stood Bella. In one small fist she still held tight to the hand of her sister, never letting anything separate them. In the other fist, the one she was holding out to me, was Bella’s plastic bracelet, the one she had worn every day. Speechless, I took the shyly offered gift, and this time to give her a real hug. Not knowing what I wanted to say, nor how to say it if I had, I could only hug Bella and her sister and murmur thank yous one after the other. Bella soon skipped off again, leaving me with more that a little to ponder. As I fumbled with the plastic laces, I slowly began to realize the magnitude of this gift. I began to remember the homes I had visited that first day. Incredibly small shelters that were once worthy of the title hut, their walls and ceilings were now formed with the things I once used to make forts. Mattresses, scrap wood, wagons and tires were used in place of glass and concrete. Somehow I had removed Bella from the town in which she lived, and in that single second the realization that she lived in one of those achingly mismatched homes threatened to knock me over. It is humorous how quickly my outlook on life was altered. The generosity of one small girl in a village reversed my thought process and sent me from self absorbed and unconcerned to the beginning of conscious member of society. The weight of one small bracelet resting in my palm brought with it a new knowledge and comprehension. I understood for the first time that my small network of contacts was not the only plot line, that my small pool of acquaintances was not the axis of the earth. It was in the few seconds that it took for me to fasten that tired yellow and black bracelet around my wrist, and the several y ears it took me to lose it, that Bella’s gentle unassuming influence altered my life.

Julius Caesars Civil War Battle of Pharsalus

The Battle of Pharsalus took place on August 9, 48 BC and was the decisive engagement of Caesars Civil War (49-45 BC). Some sources indicate that battle may have taken place on June 6/7 or June 29. Overview With the war with Julius Caesar raging, Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus (Pompey) ordered the Roman Senate to flee to Greece while he raised an army in the region. With the immediate threat of Pompey removed, Caesar quickly consolidated his position in the western parts of the Republic. Defeating Pompeys forces in Spain, he shifted east and began preparing for a campaign in Greece. These efforts were hampered as Pompeys forces controlled the Republics navy. Finally forcing a crossing that winter, Caesar was soon joined by additional troops under Mark Antony. Despite being reinforced, Caesar was still outnumbered by Pompeys army, though his men were veterans and the enemy largely new recruits. Through the summer, the two armies maneuvered against each other, with Caesar attempting to besiege Pompey at Dyrrhachium. The resulting battle saw Pompey win a victory and Caesar was forced to back away. Wary of fighting Caesar, Pompey failed to follow up this triumph, preferring instead to starve his opponents army into submission. He was soon swayed from this course by his generals, various senators, and other influential Romans who wished him to give battle. Advancing through Thessaly, Pompey encamped his army on the slopes of Mount Dogantzes in the Enipeus Valley, approximately three and a half miles from Caesars army. For several days the armies formed for battle each morning, however, Caesar was unwilling to attack up the slopes of the mountain. By August 8, with his food supplies low, Caesar began debating withdrawing east. Under pressure to fight, Pompey planned to give battle the next morning. Moving down into the valley, Pompey anchored his right flank on the Enipeus River and deployed his men in the traditional formation of three lines, each ten men deep. Knowing that he had a larger and better-trained cavalry force, he concentrated his horse on the left. His plan called for the infantry to remain in place, forcing Caesars men to charge a long distance and tiring them before contact. As the infantry engaged, his cavalry would sweep Caesars from the field before pivoting and attacking into the enemys flank and rear. Seeing Pompey move off the mountain on August 9, Caesar deployed his smaller army to meet the threat. Anchoring his left, led by Mark Antony  along the river, he too formed three lines though they were not as deep as Pompeys. Also, he held his third line in reserve. Understanding Pompeys advantage in cavalry, Caesar pulled 3,000 men from his third line and arrayed them in a diagonal line behind his cavalry to protect the armys flank. Ordering the charge, Caesars men began advancing. Surging forward, it soon became clear that Pompeys army was standing their ground. Realizing Pompeys goal, Caesar halted his army approximately 150 yards from the enemy to rest and reform the lines. Resuming their advance, they slammed into Pompeys lines. On the flank, Titus Labienus led Pompeys cavalry forward and made progress against their counterparts. Falling back, Caesars cavalry led Labienus horsemen into the line of supporting infantry. Using their javelins to thrust at the enemy cavalry, Caesars men halted the attack. Uniting with their own cavalry, they charged and drove Labienus troops from the field. Wheeling left, this combined force of infantry and cavalry struck into Pompeys left flank. Though Caesars first two lines were under heavy pressure from Pompeys larger army, this attack, coupled with the entry of his reserve line, swung the battle. With their flank crumbling and fresh troops assaulting their front, Pompeys men began to give way. As his army collapsed, Pompey fled the field. Seeking to deliver the deciding blow of the war, Caesar pursued Pompeys retreating army and compelled four legions to surrender the following day. Aftermath The Battle of Pharsalus cost Caesar between 200 and 1,200 casualties while Pompey suffered between 6,000 and 15,000. Additionally, Caesar reported capturing 24,000, including Marcus Junius Brutus, and showed great clemency in pardoning many the Optimate leaders. His army destroyed, Pompey fled to Egypt seeking aid from King Ptolemy XIII. Shortly after arriving at Alexandria, he was murdered by the Egyptians. Pursuing his enemy to Egypt, Caesar was horrified when Ptolemy presented him with Pompeys severed head. Though Pompey had been defeated and killed, the war continued on as Optimate supporters, including the generals two sons, raised new forces in Africa and Spain. For the next few years, Caesar conducted various campaigns to eliminate this resistance. The war effectively ended in 45 BC after his victory at the Battle of Munda.
